SA Training Awards- Small Employer of the Year Finalist

Being a small business, we are passionate about training, mentoring and improvement for all staff. Since opening up in December 2015 we have successfully trained 2 dental assistants through our traineeship program. This is a great opportunity for young adults to get a hands-on experience to what dentistry is all about.

In September 2018 we were thrilled to be finalists in the SA Training Awards- Small Employer of the Year Category! As part of the assessment, our staff gave a visual tour of our modern practice, explaining and talking about their experience and the skills they have gained while working here. Overall it has been an exciting experience as we grow as a business and has helped us develop skills as a team.

Benefits of Chewing Gum

Chewing gum is not a substitute for brushing teeth or flossing, but it has been proven to improve oral health in conjunction with these other methods.

Why is Chewing Gum Good for your Teeth?

  1. Chewing sugar-free gum stimulates saliva up to X10 more than usual production, therefore is great for relieving the discomfort of a dry mouth.
  2. Salvia is the body’s natural defence against tooth decay and allows sugars to clear the mouth more quickly.
  3. Salvia contains ‘buffering agents’ which help the plaque’s pH level to neutralise after a sugar intake and helps to reduce risk factors linked to tooth decay.

So what gum should you chose?

  • For chewing gum to have the oral health benefits mentioned it must be sugar-free.
  • The key ingredient to look for in a good sugar-free gum is xylitol. Xylitol has been shown to reduce dental plaque.

Laughing Gas Has Arrived At OVD

Nitrous Oxide, known as ‘Laughing Gas’ is a great, short term relief for nervous patients.

Did You Know?

How Does it Work?

One of the most immediate effects of the gas is the easing of pain which generally has effect within the first 4 to 5 inhalation. After a few minutes, a warm euphoric feeling will spread through the body, similar to a ‘happy drunk’ feeling. This is generally associated with light-headedness and a healthy case of the giggles, hence the name

Why We Reccomend it!

Its Quick!
The gas reaches your brain in 20 seconds, with the relaxation and pain-killing effects developing after 2 to 3 minutes.

Depth of Sedation is Buildable
Unlike other sedation techniques the person administering the gas can increase and decrease the level of sedation with almost instant effect.

There is No ‘Hangover’ Effect
The gas is eliminated from the body within 3-5 minutes after the gas has been turned off, leaving you safe to drive home after your treatment.

No Injection Required
The gas is administered through a nasal mask and then inhaled, therefore no injection required! This is a great option for patients that suffer from needle phobias as can allow them to relax before a needle if local anaesthetic is required.

It’s Very Safe!
There are very few side effects of laughing gas, and has no harsh effects on your major organs.

Helps with Severe Gagging
Inhalation sedation has been found to be very effective in eliminating, at the least minimizing severe gagging.
