Missing a Tooth?

At Ocean View Dental we understand that having a missing tooth can be quite an ordeal, but we are here to help!

dfgghghAre you missing a tooth? Do you have a damaged tooth? Are you looking to replace existing dental treatment?

At Ocean View Dental, we can help you explore a variety of options to address missing and or damaged teeth. We understand that teeth are important and a missing or damaged tooth can cause an individual to feel embarrassment, aesthetic concern or can also disrupt their verbal communication and facial expressions.

We aim to help all our patients restore damaged or missing teeth with options tailored to suit each patient. We utilise techniques such as crowns, bridges and implants to help patients achieve the best possible outcome.

Crowns

A dental crown is a restorative treatment that can be used to cover damaged or broken teeth. A dental crown is an artificial ‘cap’ that looks like your natural tooth. A dental crown restores the appearance of your tooth and increases the strength and functioning of your tooth.

Bridges

A dental bridge can replace one or more missing teeth by suspending a false tooth from the natural teeth on either side. A dental bridge requires two crowns which are secured to the natural teeth. The spaces created by missing teeth can lead to several problems including teeth rotation and or teeth shifting into empty spaces.

Dental bridges are highly durable and will last for many years without treatment or replacement if they have been maintained well.

Implants

Dental implants are a fantastic permanent replacement for missing teeth. A dental implant is essentially, a titanium screw which is placed in the jawbone of the root of missing tooth. Once an implant has been placed and has fused with the jawline to form a secure foundation, a crown is made which attaches to the top of the screw to form the ‘tooth’ which will act, look and feel similar to a natural tooth.

Advantages of dental implants are:

  • They do not require special cleaning, implants can be looked after exactly how we clean our natural teeth with regular brushing and flossing
  • They withstand a greater biting pressure than other teeth replacement options
  • They often provide a higher level of comfort than other options due to their permanent nature
  • They prevent cheeks from hollowing or collapsing following tooth extractions
